- Screen selection clipboard — rubber-band rectangle select in the Screen Designer (Select tool), copy the tiles + attributes, then stamp the block anywhere — repeatedly, with edge clipping and one undo per stamp.
- Tile copy/paste — copy the current 8×8 tile (or the 16×16 meta block in Meta mode) and stamp it onto any slot in the tile/sprite/bank browser; zone- and bank-edge aware.
Art banks & fullscreen windows (detail)
- Art banks — up to 16 extra banks of 192 tiles per project. Banks are paged right in the tile browser, and Add/Remove Art Bank on the menu grows or shrinks the project (one undo step each).
- Fullscreen art windows — dedicated 20×18 editors for title-screen-style art on the Art tab. Every window carries its own ROM bank selector, and switching banks keeps the window's content.
- 1× native proofer — proof each art window exactly at Game Boy resolution (1×–4×) before it leaves the editor.
- Stamp guards — bank tiles stamp only onto art windows, so bank art never leaks into core-tileset screens.
- Undo/redo — bank add/remove and art window edits join the same 20-level history as everything else.
- Exports —
bank<k>.chrper bank (192-tile VRAM bank 1 dumps),art.tlmrecords for the windows,[banks]/[art_windows]sections incatalog.toml, andmeta.datv2 with an art descriptor table. - Build ROM — a generated
banks.rgbasm(labeled ROMX sections + size asserts) is assembled into the ROM, so the bank data is already in the image — ready for engine consumption, contract documented.
Compatibility
- Old
.p1xprojects (format v1/v2) open unchanged. The bank and art-window data lives in format v3, written only when a project actually has banks. - Exports are additive: a project without banks produces the byte-identical v1 contract (golden-gate proven).
meta.datv2 appears only when banks or art windows exist — the loader can branch on the version byte alone.- ROM ceiling note: Build ROM links with
--tiny, so bank content must fit the 32 KiB ROM budget — 16 banks × 3072 bytes alone exceed it. If the project outgrows the budget, drop--tinyfrom rgblink and the bank sections place into real ROM banks unchanged.
Engine integration
The bank contract is documented end-to-end for the engine author in
docs/CONTRACT-BANKS.md: file layouts, attribute semantics, the generatedArtBank<K>Datalabels, a CGB load recipe, and the open engine-side work list. The editor and its exports are live; the engine consumes them through that contract.Downloads
